Should we take notice of ChatGPT and allied AI technologies in MedComms?
Thursday Jan 19, 2023
Thursday Jan 19, 2023
This podcast is a recording of a live #MedComms webinar.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is not new. Debates have been had for some time about, for instance, the possibilities to replace medical writers! Is it so difficult to imagine? Maybe. Maybe no.
ChatGPT is a new chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022 that has created a huge amount of interest. It answers questions and writes articles with apparent ease. And does so stunningly fast. Try it and you may be startled by what you get back. However, it’s also been shown to produce some quite daft results! So just how accurate is it, or could it be? What are the source materials? How ‘good’ is the writing? Is it a tool that supports a human writer or will it – might it – replace them? Will it matter to the reader? What unintended consequences might crop up?
In this webinar we are joined by Martin Delahunty (Inspiring STEM Consulting), Katja Martin (medtextpert), Stephen Mott (PharmAdvisor) and Avishek Pal (Novartis) for an informal discussion about the possible implementations within and around MedComms. None are experts in AI, but all have played with ChatGPT and are thinking about the impact on the work we do.
It should be of interest to anyone who is working in and around MedComms, or who is wanting to join the business.

This podcast is a recording of a live #MedComms webinar.
This is a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the publishers about their journals, their unique working practices and their plans for the coming year. A lively panel discusses current developments and future trends in publishing. On our panel this year we have Hamish McDougall (Publishing Solutions Manager at SAGE Publishing), Jan Seal-Roberts (Publishing Director at Adis, Springer Healthcare), Kelly Soldavin (Senior Editor at Taylor and Francis) and Joanne Walker (Co-Founder and Publishing Director at Becaris Publishing). And we answer questions from the audience.
It should be of interest to anyone who is working in and around MedComms, or who is wanting to join the business.

Building a diverse MedComms workforce: Including people with (in)visible disabilities
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
Wednesday Nov 30, 2022
This podcast is a recording of a live #MedComms webinar.
MedComms companies are striving to build a truly diverse workforce, which should translate into real benefits for the business and also improve the well-being of individuals within the business. Importantly, it should also directly inform and improve the services we deliver, which, after all, are intended for very diverse audiences. In recent years, there has been a greater focus on gender, ethnicity and race, though other characteristics are sometimes forgotten about. Examples include visible (and invisible) disabilities, neurodiversity, gender identity and expression, caring responsibilities, and socio-economic circumstances.
In this webinar, we hear some personal stories and experiences that will encourage us all to think about how well we support each other in practice, and about how MedComms can offer career opportunities for all – free from prejudice and discrimination. Jayne Carey-George is Scientific Director at Sciterion and was born with severe-to-profound hearing loss. Hayley Hubberstey is the Director of Patient Engagement at COUCH Health. She has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, has experienced herself and cared for others with long term health conditions. Simon Stones is Medical Writer at Envision Pharma Group who has been a carer and has coped with psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and a number of other conditions since childhood. All have successful careers in MedComms. What challenges have they faced along the way and what practical advice can they offer employers and employees? Please help generate further discussion and action to make MedComms the equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace it should be.
It should be of interest to anyone who is working in and around MedComms, or who is wanting to join the business.
